sorry kid, you're not cute enough

as if the controversy of some of the opening ceremony’s fireworks is not enough, the world has uncovered another loophole from the seemingly flawless spectacle of the recent beijing olympics opening ceremonies. this time it’s not about faking sparks, it’s about hiding them.

earlier this morning i’ve heard from the news that the little girl singing during the opening ceremonies is not actually singing at all. she lip-synched to the voice of another kid, who, apparently was not “cute” enough to be presented on the world stage despite her talent. yang peiyi, the 7-year-old singer behind the voice of the cute girl in red during the olympics opening ceremony was hidden "… for the national interest," said chen qigang, the ceremony's musical director.

can the not-so-cute girls with exceptional talent still represent china in front of the world? how objective can beauty be (or cuteness for this matter) in china?

i still have faith over the drumbeaters and the other performers during the opening ceremonies. i do hope they are not cyborgs or superhumans conditioned to perform that day.

I feel sorry to whoever owns that voice coz she was replaced at the last minute due to aesthetic reasons.

I dont know whether she understood what had happened, but Im sure that kid was traumatized.

@dor: i know. all the while i was baffled by the great show that they put up for the world, all serene, perfect, and sincere to the huamn spirit and the chinese culture; until lo and behold, deception emerges and it slowly cracks my faith in the performance.

well, in the case of the fireworks, reports say that due to the delayed telecast and other factors (weather, etc) the people behind the broadcasting network/s broadcasted several fabricated fireworks to compensate for whatever stuff they feel that the actual spectacle lacks.

the fireworks is forgivable, but hiding the not so cute kid? err. i dunno

@dak: i know. not really that bad. in any case, all kids looks cute to me.

@roneiluke i know. =(

@kris jasper: most probably. but i dunno. maybe they capitalized on her innocenced and bribed her to do the singing backstage.

i felt sad for the li'l girl who actually sang the song for it. just because she is not pretty, she was subtituted with someone who is prettier than her but no has no talent. tsktsk!

poor world.

I feel bad for the kid who became a victim of one's shallowness. Plus, beauty is certainly in the eye of the beholder. I found the kid cute even if she had some crooked teeth. A lot of kids have crooked teeth and she's no exception. There has been a lot of phoniness in this Olympics from the suspected age of some athletes to making the Olympics stadium seem full during the opening ceremonies by draping t-shirts on the empty seats to phony fireworks. Oh well.

By the way, you have a great blog here. Thank you very much for your visit to my blog. It is very much appreciated. :)

yeah. its kinda self defeating na kahit sa olympics e ganun pa rin ang kalakaran. and its stupid to reason out "for national interest".
